The last time Dollar Shave Club hit the headlines was in November 2012 when they raised $9.8 million from venture capital firm Venrock. Since then, there really hasn't been any news about the company and its plans for the future. In various news articles around the time of this fundraising, Dollar Shave Club's founder Michael Dubin suggested that the company may expand beyond razors and into other men's products. Curious, we've done some sleuthing and have a couple things we'd like to share with you.
Unknown to many, Dollar Shave Club recently released a new product, "Dr. Carver's Shave Butter," which is available to its current razor subscribers at $8/tube. This was a logical decision, as the whole premise behind Dollar Shave Club was its convenience—and what's convenient about having razors shipped straight to your door when you still have to go to the store to get shaving cream?
Also, it looks like Dollar Shave Club's next product will be dubbed "One Wipe Charlies." It's unclear exactly what these are, but the trademark filing describes them as, "Disposable wipes impregnated with cleansing chemicals or compounds for personal hygiene; Pre-moistened cosmetic wipes." All I know is that I don't want to become impregnated with anything. These wipes could be simple deodorizing wipes like these Niche Male Deodorizing Wipes, or they could take it a step further and be Dude Wipes. We'll just have to wait and see.
Here at Razorpedia, we are big supporters of Dollar Shave Club. We are excited to see them continue to innovate in the men's grooming market, and will continue to keep you all in the loop on all things Dollar Shave Club.
